Community Engagement on Proposed Public Monuments
Clarence Valley Council is engaging with the community about Options for Proposed Public Monuments to the Ulmarra-Southgate Ferry.
The Ulmarra Ferry crossing was established in the 1890s and after 130 years has now ceased operation. The 74-year-old Ulmarra-Southgate vehicular ferry has also been decommissioned by Transport for NSW (TfNSW), with the ferry service making its final run across the Clarence River before the last low tide on 10 June 2024. TFNSW understands the importance the community placed on this ferry and is working with Clarence Valley Council and the community on suitable ways to commemorate its long service.
We have received advice from TfNSW that the following items have been made available for Council: Anchor, Set of navigation lights, Life buoys (QTY: 2) and the Hydraulic brake unit (photos available in the sidebar).
The Clarence Valley Historical Society have been reserved a set of the navigation lights, while the Lawrence Museum have been reserved the Fly Wheel (also known as the Drive Wheel).
The community engagement plan for the Options for Proposed Public Monuments to the Ulmarra-Southgate Ferry involves:
1) On-Line Survey; and
2) Community Engagement Session.
Contact our Senior Parks and Recreation Officer Gavin Beveridge if you require any further information.
Survey Outcomes & Proposed Actions on Proposed Public Monuments
The survey outcomes of the community engagement and the associated proposed actions are presented below:
A project proposal will be developed to implement the actions on Proposed Public Monuments and forwarded to TfNSW for consideration / approval to fund.
