“Phoenix”.

In 1846, the 108-ton timber paddle steamer “Phoenix” was launched in Sydney and was said to be one of the best specimens of colonial ship building. She was employed in the Clarence River trade and in 1852 was wrecked off the northern side of the river entrance. Searches for the buried wreck site of the “Phoenix” have been inconclusive.
